Biography* James Glancy, 1835-1864:
The second born, of nine, from brother Edward Clancy's testimony in brother John Clancy's 1918 probate file. We have no direct evidence of either his birth date or place. James may have been born in County Leitrim. He immigrated to the United States in 1855 with brother Patrick and settled in McHenry County, Illinois. The brothers sailed from Liverpool, England on the 20th of January aboard the 835-ton ship Enterprise captained by Chas G Wash and arrived at the Port of New York on the 14th of February. In 1857, James was married to Catherine Nolan by the Rev. Bernard O'Hara before witnesses John Farey and Kate Gillin. He filed a Declaration of Intent to become a United States citizen in McHenry County Circuit Court in 1858. James was listed in Hartland Township in the 1860 census with real property of $1000. There was no record that he owned property in McHenry County. The property may have been in Minnesota. James was a sponsor to the christening of John McGuirk in July of 18607. He was listed in Dorr Township in the military census of 1862/3. In 1864 James was living near Harvard.

James went into Woodstock on 23 July 1864. He became intoxicated and walked up the railraod a short distance and then lay down on the tracks and went to sleep. The night train came along shortly afterwards and severed both of James' legs and otherwise mangled him, He died shortly after in extreme agony. He died intestate, i.e. without a will. By Illinois law, his children inherited one-half of his estate while Catherine, his widow, inherited the other one-half. According to family lore, James went to California during the gold rush and never returned. This story must have been concocted to avoid any embarrassment that would have been caused by the truth. In May 1865, his wife Catherine Nolan petitioned the McHenry County Court to be appointed guardian of her children's property. This property had been inherited by the children from their deceased father's estate.

On 15 September 1864, about two months after his death!, James Glancy was granted a Bounty Patent, General Land Office Warrant 98848 issued by the United States, during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, in the 89th year of U. S. independence, for 160-acres of land in Minnesota. James had been assigned this land by Elliot B. Merrick who had in turn been assigned the land by Pvt. Campbell Hudson. Hudson had acquired the warrant as bounty for service in Captain Squire's Company, Missouri Volunteers during the Osage Indian Disturbance. The land was described as the South West Quarter of Section 24 in Town 101 North of Range 22 West (Nunda Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota) in the district of lands formerly subject to sale at Chatfield, now Winnebago City, Minnesota. On the following May 15th, his widow Catherine petitioned the McHenry County Court to be appointed guardian of the property inherited by her two minor children, heirs of the deceased James. The children’s assets consisted of unspecified real property amounting to $500 in value. If the children's assets amounted to half of the estate, then we can assume that the total estate was valued at $1,000. This petition was approved on the same date she posted a $1,000 bond.

Biography* Sanford "Sandy" E. Clancy Oakes, 1909-2003:
Sandy Edward Clancy began using the surname Oakes at his mother Nita's request after she married Vincent Oakes in 1916. Sandy went to work right out of grade school. His step-father had promised him he could go to high school, but when the step-father changed his mind, Sandy got a job at the Western Electric Company. He started on 4 June 1924 at the age of 15 years.

Sandy, who would become a Baptist Minister, only went to Sunday School now and then as a child. This all changed when he met Rosella Bodine in December of 1933 and "fell for her like a ton of bricks." Rosella was a born again child, having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Sandy accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior on 2 September 1937 after returning home from Rosella's house. After that, Sandy went to church every Sunday. In 1941, Sandy felt the Lord Jesus was calling him into HIS service. He began attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago but his studies were interrupted by a two year hitch in the U.S.Army during World War II. After finishing his studies, he was appointed in September 1948 to serve the First Baptist Church in Loup City, Sherman County, Nebraska. He served the Loup City Church until April 1954 when he was reassigned to the Cherryln Baptist Church in Englewood, Arapahoe County, Colorado. He served the Engelwood Church until July 1962. He was without a church from then until March 1965 when he was assigned to serve at the Faith Baptist Church in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey. He served in this post until he retired in September 1977.

Upon retiring he and Rosella moved to Deltona, Volusia County, Florida. There Sandy volunteered to serve as Chaplain for the Volusia County Department of Corrections. While serving in that capacity he established the Baptist Mission of the Incarcerated at the County Jail and served as its head for over fourteen years until March 1991. After his wife Rosella died in 1999, Sandy moved to Colorado to be near his daughter. He died on a Sunday two weeks before his 94th birthday. Sandy was buried in Florida with his wife Rosella.
