Biography* Marion Sawales Clancy, 1910-1954:
Marion was the younger of two daughters. Both her parents were born in Wisconsin. Her father Rudolph was a first generation German-American. In 1910, the family lived in Ogema township, Price County, Wisconsin. Her father worked in a creamery as a butter maker. In 1920 the family owned a house free of mortgage on Church Street. By 1930, Marion and her sister Irene, both single, were boarding with Hattie Carlson, a single woman 3-years older than Irene, at 215 Central Avenue in the 37th ward of Chicago. The sisters were working as stenographers, Marion for a lawyer and Irene at a loan company. Later, Marion worked as a legal secretary. In 1935, she married John Clancy and by 1940 they owned an $8,000 house at 7809 Thorndale Avenue in the 41st ward. Marion and John were divorced in 1946 and after the separation she lived at 548 Woodlawn Ave, Glencoe, Illinois.

Marion died at home on a Saturday after a four-month illness with pancreatic cancer. She was 43. The informant on her death record was her sister Irene S. (Charles) Rossiter of 28 South Church Street in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Marion was survived by her sister Irene, her mother Mary Sawales and by two sons. The two sons went to live with their aunt Irene. The funeral was held at the North Shore Methodist church in Glencoe on Tuesday.
