Biography* Vincent Joshua Horton, 1896-1948:
Vincent was the third of seven and the oldest of three sons. His father Delmar was born in New York and his mother Jessie Boice in Minnesota. In 1900 the family was living in Bristol township of Fillmore County, Minnesota and the father Delmar was working as a farmer on a farm he owned with mortgage. Circa 1909, the family of nine moved to Lime Springs Town in Howard County, Iowa. In 1910, the father Delmar was a merchant in a drug store. And they owned their house free of mortgage on Main Street. In 1920, the father was postmaster. Vincent graduated from the Lime Springs high school, then from Upper Iowa University (U.I.U.) at Fayette, Iowa with a B.A. and finally from the Carver College of Medicine at the Universty of Iowa. Following graduation, Vincent interned at Saint Francis hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin and then worked as an assistant to Dr Grinnell in Preston for one year. In Mar ch1925, he opened a general medical practice at Calmar in Winneshiek County, Iowa. He was married to Genevieve Ryan at Preston, Minnesota in 1926 and by 1930 with two daughters, Vincent and family were renting for $35/month in Calmar. In 1940, Dr. Vincent worked 45-hours the week-ending 30 March. In 1942, he registered for the World War II draft. He was 5-feet/9-inches in height, weighed 190 ponds, had blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. Vincent retired from his practice 1943-44 due to poor health. Was a member of Iowa State Medical Association and the American Legion. Was chief of Decorah hospital, president of Winneshiek County Medical Associatoion and was the Chicasgo-Milwaukee Railroad surgeon.

Vincent, 51, died on a Monday at Kahler Hospital in Rochester. He suffered an embolism while recovering from surgery. Vincent was survived by his mother Mrs Jessie Horton of Lime Spring, his wife Genevieve, four-daughters, two-sons, four-sisters (only three listed in the obit, two without first names): Mrs W. E. Kerr of Hollywood, California; Mrs Wayne Simpson of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs Laura Bolich of Lime Springs; brother Millard of Sioux City and one aunt Mrs Elizabth Darrey of Sioux City. Vincent's father Delmar died 12-years agp and one brother Stanley in 1911 at the age of three. Military services were held on Thursday at Saint Aloysius church in Calmar, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev Warren Ryan of Brewster, Minnesota, brother of the widow, celebrated. Rev Hirsch of Calmar was deacon, Rev Vollmecke of Chester was sub-deacon. Pallbearers Loren Johnson, Idor Bjonerud, Ralph Wesselmann, George Brueckner, Dr. G. C. Bolich and Frank Galligan. Members of American Legion, American Legion Auxilaries and Winnesheik County Medical Association attended in bodies. All Colmar businesses were closed during the funeral services.

Biography* James Barret Hall, 1901-1991:
Born in South Dakota to a father George born in Iowa and a mother Alice born in Wisconsin, James was the oldest of three with one younger sister. The family owned their home in the second ward of Fairfax, Gregory County, South Dakota in 1910. His father George was a butcher. James's education included 1-year of college. At the time of his marriage in 1929 to Mary Ryan, James was foreman of a job printing and newspaper office in Shawano, Wisconsin. By 1930, he and Mary were living in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota and renting at 1223 Nicolett Avenue in the 4th ward for $32/month. James was working as a printer. In 1939, he was employed as a lineotype operator for a newspaper, worked 52-weeks that year and earned $2,340 in wages. In 1940, James and family were living at 4404 Xerxes Avenue South in the 13th ward. They owned the house which was valued at $3,000. In 1942, James registered for the World War II draft. They were living at 4429 Xerxes Ave South and he was working for the Star Journal in Minneapolis. James was 5-feet/10½-inches tall, weighed 187 pounds, had blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion. He also had a scar of the left side of his neck below the ear. James belonged to the Typographical Union for 60-years.

James, 90, of 5500 Boone Ave North, New Hope, Hennepin County, died on a Sunday at Ebenezer Caroline Center (a nursing home), Minneapolis. Cause of death was metastatic colo cancer (2-years), lymphaeytic leukemia. James was attended by physician Michael D. Schoenleber (MD), 3001 Hennepin, Minneapolis. Preceded in death by his wife Mary, his brother Chet and sister Mary DeWitt. James was survived by three sons, two daughters, 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic church, 2900 West 44th Street. Enga-White Funeral Chapel, 5600 Excelsior Blvd at Hwy 100, was in charge. Memorials to Saint Thomas elevator fund preferred.
