Biography* | Benedict Samuel Koch, 1901-1969: Benedict was an only child. His father George, a first generation German-American and a cattle buyer, died when Benedict was six-years-old. In 1910, Benedict and his mother Anna, also a first generation German-American, were living in a house they owned in Waconia township of Carver County. In 1920, Benedict, with a high school education and without an occupation, was lodging with Mrs Rolf at 1315 Clinton in the 5th ward of Minneapolis. In 1930, he was rooming, with six others, at 1507 Park Avenue, Minneapolis 5th ward, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Benedict was employed as the office manager at Trough & Stange. By 1940 he was lodging at 521 Erie Street in the 2nd ward. He was business manager of the Minneapolis Van & Warehouse Company at 106 1st Avenue North in Minneapolis. In 1939, he worked 37-weeks and earned wages of $1,800. Later in 1940, Benedict married Kathryn Walker. The marriage was performed by Catholic Priest Paul A Colbert. In 1942, Benedict, age 41, registered for the World War II draft. He and Kathryn were living at 3905 Zarthan Avenue in Saint Louis Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Benedict was listed as 5ft-4in tall, weighing 192 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion and a lame left hip. Benedict S. Koch, 68, died on Saturday at Methodist hospital in Saint Louis Park. His wife Kathryn was the informant on the death cert. Cause of death was primary myocardiopathy (8-years). An autopsy was performed. Benedict was attended by physician Richard C Woellner of 5000 West 39th Street, Minneapolis. He was survived by his wife Kathryn, cousins Mrs Jos. (Josephine) Buckley and Mrs F. L. (Rita) Ehalt, other cousins and relatives. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Saint Joseph's Catholic church in Waconia. Yetzer's Funeral Home, Waconia, was in charge. Memorials to donor's choice were siggested. |

Biography* | Erma McSchooler Ryan, 1920-1991: Erma was the second of two children and the only daughter. Her father Thomas was a garage foreman born in Illinois. Her mother Amanda was born in Illinois also. In 1930 the family owned a $1,050 house in Dieterich Village, Effingham County, Illinois. Erma received a high school education. She married James Ryan in 1938. In 1940, they were lodging with Simeon and Dorotha Wamplen in Gosport, Owen County, Indiana. By 1945, they had moved to Clinton, Tennessee. Husband James traveled overseas extensively. In late 1952, Erma and their three children sailed on a cargo liner, the SS Exochondra, from New York City to Alexandria, Egypt to live with James. Almost two years later in 1954, the entire family returned from Atens, Greece to New York City on a Trans World Airline (TWA) flight. Sometime, after 1960r, they moved to 9407 Meadowbriar Lane, Houston, Harris County, Texas. Erma, 71, died on a Thursday. |

Biography* | John Joseph Mulvihill, 1897-1966: Born and raised on a homestead farm in Farmington township, Lake county, South Dakota, John took over the farm when his parents moved to a farm closer to Madison in 1920. John took a break from farming and moved to Sioux Falls for a few years where he worked for the John Morrell & Co as a butcher & packer. The family lived at 612 Webster Avenue in 1927 & 1928. He returned to the farm and remained there until the drought and dust storms during 1934. They lost the farm and moved to a smaller farm, south and east of the homestead. Fimally in 1937 they gave up farming and moved into Madison where he worked as a carpenter and for the W.P.A.4. In 1940, the family was renting at 714 South Egan Avenue in Madison for $13/month. John was listed as an unemployed farmer. In 1939, he worked 36-weeks for $387 in wages and had no other income. John registered for the World War II draft in 1942. He was working for the W.P.A. and was described as being 5-ft/6-in tall, weighing 150-pounds, with blue eyes, black hair and a ruddy complexion. Aside from work, John liked to dance, play cards, and fish. He also was fond of whistling. A very handy man, he made rocking horses, tables and chairs for all of his grandchildren. In later years, he enjoyed playing cards at O'Hara's pool hall. John J Mulvihill, age 69, died on a Monday at Madison Community hospital following a lingering illness. He was survived by four daughters, two sons, one brother Thomas of Wyandotte, Michigan, 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His wife had preceeded him in death. The funeral was held on Thursday at Saint Thomas Aquinas church with the Right Reverend Monsignor William Schmitt officiating. Weiland Funeral Home was in charge. Biography* | Regina Frances Mulvihill, 1898-1964: Regina, the second of six children and the first of two daughters, was born and raised on a farm in Farmington township, Lake county, South Dakota. Her parents were 1st generation Irish-Americans. Regina graduated from Madison High School in 1917 and by 1920 had become a school teacher and was living with her parents. In 1928 she took a job teaching 5th grade for the 1928-29 school year in Outlook, Sheriden County, Montana[CIT:Outlook, in the northeast corner of the state, is located nine miles south of the Canadian border and 25-miles west of North Dakota. It is 622-miles from Madison, South Dakota.[:CIT]. Regina's father died in January 1929. She came home to Madison for 3-weeks and then returned to Outlook. By 1930, Regina was boarding with her 1st cousin Marie (Boyd) Nultemeier at 840 Oak Street in Wyandotte, Wayne county, Michigan and working as a public school teacher. Regina died on a Tueday, three-days before Christmas, at age 66. |

Biography* | William Jennings Mulvihill, 1901-1945: Born and raised on a farm in Farmington township, Lake county, South Dakota. Wiliam completed 3-years of high school. By 1930 he was renting a farm, in the same township, in partnership with two brothers. By 1935, he had moved to Wyandotte, Michigan. By 1940 he was married to Margaret Washburn Procotor, who had two daughters by a previous marriage. They were living at 2567 Tyler Avenue - in a $2,500 house which they owned - in Fresno City, California. William was the operator of a shooting gallery, Margaret was a waitress in a restaurant. By 1941 they were living at 4144 Olive Avenue in Fresno and then by 1942 at 318 Louisiana Street In Vallejo, Solano County. In that year, William registered for the World War II draft. He was employed by the U.S. Government at the Mare Island Navy Yard7. Willaim was 5'-5'' in height, weighed 135 pounds, had blue eyes, black hair, light complexion and a 6-inch scar on his left arm. He signed as William Jennings Mulvihill on February 15th. In 1944 when he registered to vote, William was living at 319 Texas, hsi party affiliation was Democrat and his occupation was shipfitter. William, 43, died in Vallejo on a Friday. His body was transported back to Ramona, South Dakota accompanied by hsis sister Regina who had been visiting. Funeral services were held at Saint William's Catholic church in Ramona on Wednesday the 20th. |

By 1930 he was renting a farm in the same township in partnership with brothers John & William. By 1935, he had moved to Wyandotte in Wayne County, Michigan. In 1939 he married Marie Duffy who had two children by a previous marriage. By 1940, Thomas and Marie were renting a duplex apartment at 65 Maple in Wyandotte for $32 a month. Thomas's sister Regina and a cousin, Veronica Boyd, were living with them. Marie's two children were living with their father Melvin Duffy. Thomas was employed as a cab driver for the Wyandotte Cab Company, 3117 Biddle Avenue. He worked 72-hours the week-ending 30 March. In 1939, Thomas worked 52-weeks and earned wages of $1,330. On 16 October 1940, Thomas registered for the WWII draft. He was described as 5ft-7in in height and weighed 195-lbs. Thomas had blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion. He signed the registration Tom M Mulvihill. Thomas, 64, died on a Saturday. |

Biography* | Esther Becker Mulvihill, 1901-1936: Esther, a first generation German-American, was the fifth child of seven and the third daughter born to Fred Becker. Fred immigrated in 1869 and became an American citizen. Pauline Wesenberg, Ester's mother, a first generation German-American herself, was Fred's second wife. The two oldest Becker children were born to Fred's first wife. Esther was baptised the day after birth at Saint Edward's German Lutheran Church in Oldham. She was raised on the family farm in Spring Lake township, Kingsbury County. Later the family moved into Oldham. In 1921 Esther married John Mulvihill and went to live on his farm in Lake County. Sometime after 1925 she converted to Catholicism. Esther and John loved to dance. They would drive to Hatfield, Minnesota for dances. Even in the winter with no heater in the car. Esther also loved family gatherings and would always be the one to plan parties for birthdays and anniversaries. Esther, 34, died in a Madison, South Dakota hospital on a Tuesday. She was brought in for treatment on Saturday and underwent an operation on Sunday. Esther had been ill for about three weeks. She was survived by her husband and six children at home; her mother, Mrs Pauline Becker, of Oldham; three sisters, Mrs Roy Harder, Mrs Fred Bernstein, Mrs Joe Longville and three brothers, Albert, Fritz and Rudy Becker. Funeral services were held on Friday, 10 January at Saint Williams Church, Ramona, with Father Wallace officiating. Campbell Funeral Home was in charge. |
