Biography* | Patricia Rose Beck Behringer, 1924-2017: Patricia was born in Colorado, not as a Beck, but as a Parks. In 1930, she and an older sister were living as Patricia and Nadean Parks with Rudolph Beck and Agnes (nee Parks) Beck in Kenosha, Wisconsin and listed as nieces. The following year, Agnes died and the girls were again listed as neices named Parks in the obit. It seems likely that the father of the girls was a brother of Agnes, We know that Agnes had a brother named Arthur Parks but do not know if there were other brothers. Another possibilty is that Rudolph had two sisters. It is unknown if either of them married a Parks. By 1940 the girls were listed with the surname Beck as daughters of the widower Rudolph Beck. Rudolph Beck was a first generation Danish-American born in Kenosha. He built their house at 6821 26th Strret in Kenosha and lived there from his 1925 marriage to Agnes Parks until his death in 1960. He never remarried. Rudolph, a veteran of World War I, worked at the American Brass Company in Kenosha for 42-years and was a member of Saint Matthew's Episcopal church. Agnes Parks was born in Joliett, Illinois and graduated from Illinois Normal School in 1917. She then taught in Chatsworth and Bement, Illnois until circa 1922 when Agnes moved to Kenosha where she taught until her death in 1931. Agnes was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Patricia grew up in the 26th Street house and graduated from the Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha in 1943. In 1948, she married Donald E. Behringer at Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Kenosha. Patricia's sister Nadean was maid of honor. Throughout their 40 years together, they moved many times with Donald’s NCR career, making their final move to Decatur in 1972. Patricia volunteered at Catholic Charities, Good Samaritan Inn, and Project Read. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, a well-made Brandy Manhattan, and her World Champion Chicago Cubs. Patricia Rose Behringer, 92, died on a Tuesday at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She attended by her friend and physician Dr. Dhirendra Patel. Patricia was survived by four children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and three infants: Susan, James, and Paul. The funeral was held Saturday at Saint Thomas Cathoilc church in Decatur. In lieu of flowers donaations were suggested to Catholic Charities or Saint Thomas Church. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur was in charge. |
