Biography* | Dorothy Grace Rahilly, 1913-1987: Dorothy was born in Minnesota. Her parents were born in Minnesota as well. Dorothy was the third child and the second girl. In 1920, the family was renting at 467 Selby Avenue in Saint Paul's 2nd ward. In 1930, they were renting at 465 Selby for $55/mo and owned a radio. Dorothy's father Thomas worked as a policeman. Dorothy completed four-years of high school. By 1935 the family was renting at 598 Lincoln Avenue in the 7th ward. There were 6-apartments in the building. In 1940, the rent was $55/month. Dorothy's father had been promoted to lieutenant and she was working as a stenographer at the County Welfare Board. In 1939, Dorothy earned $1,020. Dorothy, 73, of 2259 Rockwood, Saint Paul, died on a Friday (six-days after husband John) at Regina Residence Nursing Home in Hastings, Minnesota. Informant on the death cert was her sister-in-law Genevieve Healy of 1180 West Skillman in Roseville. Cause of death was metastatic transitional cell carcinoma of kidney. Dorothy was attended by Dr. Robert H. Nelson (MD) of 1320 Frontage Road in Hastings. She was survived by a son. A memorial service was held at the Regina Residence chapel on Tuesday the 24th. Memorials were preferred to Regina Residence or Saint Joseph's Hospice. Godbout & Sons of 560 West 7th in Saint Paul was in charge. NOTE: There is a conflict among sources on Dorothy's birth date. The Minnesota Historical Society birth index and the Social Security Death Index both list the date as 04 Aug 1913. Her Minnesota state death cert and her burial record at Fort Snelling list it as 11 Aug 1913. |

Biography* | Jean C. Cannon Rahilly, 1919-1980: Catherine Jean was the first born of 1st generation Canadian-American parents. Both of her father's parents were born in Canada. Her mother's father was Canadian born, her mother's mother was born in Wisconsin. Jean's father worked as a plumber for the City of St. Paul and later as a plumbing inspector. In 1920, the family owned a mortgaged house at 312 South Brimhall in St. Paul's 11th ward. In 1930, they owned an $8,000 house at 303 Saratoga. By then, Jean had two younger brothers, William and Thomas. She was employed as an office manager for United Realty. In 1939, Jean worked seven-weeks and earned wages of $125 as a saleslady in a retail clothing store. She was unemployed for 52-weeks through March 30th 1940. Jean was a Yeoman 1st Class in the United States Navy during World War II. Jean, 61, of 2101 Randolph, Saint Paul, died on a Sunday at Midway hospital in Saint Paul. Cause of death was intracerebral hematomas (7-days and cerebral aneurysm - circle of willis). Jean was attended by Dr. Max E. Zarling, MD, Suite 234, 280 North Smith Avenue, Saint Paul. She was survived by two sons, two daughters, a brother Thomas Cannon and two grandchildren. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Nativity Catholic church. Godbout & Sons, 560 W 7th, Saint Paul was in charge. |

Biography* | Kenneth James Hasskamp, 1925-1963: Kenneth was the fifth of six children and the last of three sons. His father Fred was a first generation German-American. His mother Laura was one of ten, born in the Netherlands and immigrated to the USA with her family in 1902. Fred and Laura married in 1911. In 1930 the family owned their home at 127 1st Street NW in Crosby Village. The father Fred was a village policeman. By 1940, the father was the chief of police. Kenneth registered for the World War II draft in 1943, at age 18. His contact was his father Fred. Kenneth was 6'-1'' tall, weighed 163 pounds, had blue eyes, blonde hair and a light complexion. He had no disinguishing physical characteristics which would aid in identifing him. He signed Kennth J. Hasskamp on September 27th. He was a Sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II. After the war, Kenneth joined the Crosby postal system in 1946, first as a carrier. His father Fred died in 1948 and in 1950 Kenneth was still living with his mother. He married Helen Laivell in 1953. In 1954, he and Helen were living at 125 4th Street NE. Kennth was promoted to clerk and then assistant postmaster. He assumed the role of postmaster on 29 September 1961 - two days after his 36th birthday. Kenneth, 38, died unexpectedly at home on a Friday. Cause of death was anoxia (few minutes), ventricular fibrillation (minute), myocardial failure (8-9 months). He was attended by Dr. J. B. Nixon of Crosby. Kenneth was survived by his wife Virginia, four children, his mother Mrs Laura Hasskamp of Lakewood, California, two brothers Fred of Aitkin and Robert of Crosby, two sisters Mrs Myrtle Murphy of Brainerd and Mrs Pat Crews of Lakewood, California. The funeral was held on Tuesday at St Joseph's Catholic church in Crosby with Rev Joseph Cashen officiating. P. J. Koop Funeral Home of Crosby was in charge. |
