Biography* | Edward John Smith, 1886-1959: According to his obit, Edward was a Lieutenant in the English Army during World War I. Don't think he was fighting for the English in WWI - Edward immigrated to the USA in 1910 and in 1920 was married to Violet Stott and living with his in-laws in the 6th ward of Lawrence in Essex County, Massachusetts. He was working as a shoe cutter in a a shoe shop. Later in that decade Edward moved to Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, with a son born of his first marriage, where he worked was an assembler at the General Electric Company (GE) eventually rising to foreman. Edward married for a second time in 1929 to Margaret Sullivan. He and Margaret also produced one son. Edward, 72, died on a Saturday. His funeral was held on Tuesday from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home in Stratford with the Rev. Melvin S. Bulmer of the Stratford Methodist church officiating. |
