There were a total of 69-people in the townland, 36 males, and 33 females - all Catholic and a total of 24 out-buildings. Only one other farm had as many as 5 out-buildings and only one had a barn. Marriage* | 26 Feb 1906 | Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; Bride=Margaret Mary Hanly Fahey3 |
Death* | 18 Feb 1953 | Dublin, Ireland1 |
Biography* | Edward "Ned" Fahy, 1869-1953: We have little evidence of Edward's birth and parents. According to family lore, Edward's parents might be John Fahy and Ellen Martin. And there was an Edward born to this couple in 1869. However in Edward's 1906 Scotland marriage record, his parents are listed as John Fahy and Ellen Ryan. This is the only record we have of Edward's mother's miaden name. No birth record has been found in Tipperary of an Edward born to a Fahy/Ryan couple. Ned was a farm laborer. In 1901, he was living with and working for James Hanly in Cronavone. Ned eloped with his employer's neice Margaret Hanley. The pair went to Scotland and were married in the Catholic church in Maryhill an area of Glasgow.4 They returned to Ireland circa 1909 and, in 1911, he and his family were living in Grannane, Templederry Parish. John Collins was the landholder. Ned was working as a caretaker. The house had stone walls and a slate roof. It had three rooms with two windows in front. There was a fowl house on the property. Edward "Ned" Fahy, 79, of 79 Comeragh Road, Dublin, died at Saint Kevin's hospital on a Wednesday. Cause of death was myocardial degeneration, prostate obstruction, senility and arteriosclerosis. G Farrell occupier of Saint Kevin's was informant. (In the absence of any information in the death record corroborating that this is the correct Edward Fahy, the record was chosen because a grandson believed Edward died in Dublin about 1955 and because the birth date calculated from the age at death is consistent with his age as reported in the 1911 census.) |
