Biography* | Rossetter J. Leavitt, 1893-1949: Ross grew up on the family farm three miles north of Worthing in La Valley Township, Lincoln County, South Dakota. He attended grade school in Worthing and the Baptist college and Sioux Falls Business college in Sioux Falls. He grew to a man of medium height and stout build with blue eyes and brown hair. After his marriage, he and wife Laura lived on the home farm. Ross was a member of the Congregational church and belonged to the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges. In mid-January 1949, Ross and Laura drove to Texas where they visited their son Lt. Pierce Leavitt and his wife at New Braunfels. It was their intent to spend several weeks touring during their return. While driving on Hwy 83 near Le Feria, Texas on a Wednesday, Ross, age 55, was stricken with a fatal heart attack. He was survived by his wife, son, daughter, mother, brother, sister, and two grandsons. The remains were transported to Worthing where funeral services were held from the Congregational church in Worthing on Tuesday with the Rev. August Hintz, of Sioux Falls, officiating. Delwin Kuhns was soloist and Mis MarJean Johnson, pianist. Pallbeaers were Walter Sherman, Palmer Peterson, George Knutson, Art Tronson, George Ysbrand, and Dick Reiners. |

Biography* | Donald F. Leavitt, 1899-1964: Born of a Missouri born father and a Wisconsin born mother, Donald grew to man of tall height with slender build, blue eyes and light colored hair. In 1918, he was living in Worthing and working as a farm laborer for his brother Ross Leavitt. In 1937, Donald was living in Rockford, Illinois. In 1949, he was in Denver, Colorado and in 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri. Domald, age 64, died in March 1964. |
