Edward worked as a farm laborer, could read and write and was living with his mother in Crocknacreevy at age 30. He never married. When a sow gave birth, it was customary in the region, to give the runt of the litter to a neighbor who had no pigs. One year, the Murphys, neighbors of the Clancy's, gave such a runt to Edward. Later, the parish priest organized a fund raising event which required parishoners to donate items of value for a raffle. Another neighbor, the Leonards, donated a bowl of some value as a raffle prize. Edward won the bowl in the raffle and used it as a feeding dish for the pig. The Leonards were not happy with the use to which their donated treasure had been put. Edward died on a Friday at age 73. |
