Biography* | Florence Ruby Jacobson Hyslop, 1909-1996: Ruby was the eldest of two children with a younger brother. Ruby's father Joseph was a first-generation Norwegian-Americanr. In 1910, the family lived in a rented home in Racine, Wisconsin's 4th ward. The father Joseph was a retail merchant in a grocery. In 1920, they were renting in Dane Village of Dane County and Joseph was managing a dry goods store. Ruby graduated from Lodi High Scool and completed two-years at Oshkosh Teacher's College. Following her education she taught in several rural schools in the area. In 1930, she was boarding in Harrison township in Waupaca County and teaching in the local public school. After her 1938 marriage to Reed Hyslop, she and and Reed were renting in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Ruby, 86, of DeForest formerly of Dane, died on a Thursday at Lodi Good Samaritan Center, 24-days after her husband Reed. She was survived by two sons, one daughter and four grandchildren. In addition to her husband Reed, Ruby was preceded by her brother Robert Jacobson. The funeral was held on Sunday at Dane Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Rev. Richard Williams officiating. Hamre Funeral Home, Lodi was in charge. "Like a beautiful stone, Ruby was a precious gem." |

Biography* | Margaret Goeden Hyslop, 1903-1996: Margaret was an only child. Both of her parents were first generation German-Americans and farmers. In 1910, they owned their farm with mortgage. In 1920, Margaret, who had a sixth-grade education, was working as a servant with a private family. Married in 1928, she and her husband Robert were living with her parents in 1930. In 1940, Margaret and Robert were renting on Military Street in Dane Village. When her husband Robert died in 1974, they were living at 100 East 3rd Street in Waunakee. Margaret, 92, died on a Friday at City View Health Care Center in Madison. Cause of death was renal failure, ASHD and dementia senility. Margaret was survived by one son and two grand-daughters. The funeral was held on Monday from Saint John's Catholic church with Rev. Bruce Hennington officiating. Winn Funeral Home of Waunakee was in charge. |
