Biography* | Theodore Thomas Nevin, 1903-1958: Listed as Theodore in his 1903 birth record, he was known by that name until after his marriage in circa 1926. Thomas was born at 411 South Madison, Spokane to a Welsh father whose parents were Irish and an Ontario born mother whose parents were English and Canadian. Thomas father was a watchmaker. In 1910, the family owned a mortgaged home at 2121 Dean Avenue in Spokane's 4th ward (Dewey pct). Thomas' father was a jeweler. In 1920, they owned a home as 2321 Dean Avenue and Thomas' father was proprietor of a jewelry store and young Thomas worked as a clerk in his father's store. In 1930, Thomas was married with two children and was living with his mother-in-law at 2119 College in the 4th ward and working as a jeweler. In 1940, with an additional two children, Thomas and Winifred were renting at 3003 Seventh Street. They owned a retail grocery. After the family moved to Long Beach, California, Thomas operated Nevin's Belmont Market in Belmont Shore. Later he founded Nevin's Fine Furniture Store in Bixby Knolls, one of the first store in that area, and retired from business there after 13 years. Theodore Thomas, 54, of 4225 Cerritos Avenue, died on a Friday of a heart attack. He was survived by his wife, Winifred, three sons, two daughters and a sister, Mrs. Exilda Moore. The funeral was held on Monday. |

Biography* | Robert James Coleman Jr, 1924-1992: Robert was the older of two sons. He was born in Wisconsin, and by 1930, the famiy was renting for $10/month in Strasburg Village, Emmons County, North Dakota. The father Robert Sr worked for the railroad as a depot agent. In 1935, the family was living Milbank, Grant County, South Dakota. And by 1940, the family was renting for $15/month in Lechter of Sanborn County, South Dakota. In 1939, the father Robert worked 52-weeks and earned wages of $1,940. In 1942 when Robert Jr registered for the World War II draft, he was working as a relief depot agent for the railroad in Okaton, South Dakota. Young Robert, 18, was 6'-1'' in height, weighed 180 pounds had hazel eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. He signed the registration R. J. Coleman Jr. Robert joined the U.S.Army on 27 March 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre as a Tec3 until being discharged on 18 Feb 1946. After the war he worked as a freight agent for the Milwaukee Railroad until retiring in 1985. Robert was the fourth generation of the family to work on the railroad. He was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Loras Council 532 in Davenport and a member of American Legion Post 26 and the Halligan-McCabe Pallbearer Club. James, 68, of 2106 West Columbia in Davenport died on a Wednesday from injuries received in an automobile accident on I-80 near Iowa City. He was survived by his widow Patricia, seven children and 17-grandchildren. Services were held on Monday at Saint Anthony's Catholic church in Davenport. Robert was buried at the National cemetery on Arsenal Island. The Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials to Anthony's Care and Share, or Mass intentions were suggested. |

Biography* | Peter James Lenoch, 1929-2000: Peter, a first generation Bohemian/Checkoslavakian-American, was the youngest of six children and the third son. His father Frank immigrated in 1881, was naturalized and worked as a salesman in a hardware store. His mother Bess was a first generation Check-American herself and was born in Iowa. In 1920 the family lived at 420 Ronalds in the second ward of Iowa City in a house that they owned. In 1939, the father Frank worked 50-weeks and earned $800 in wages. In 1940, the house was valued at $3,000. Peter served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. President Adams. He worked as a meat cutter at various grocery stores and as a chef at various restaurants. Peter, 70, died at home in Madison on a Thursday. He was survived by his wife Kathryne, five sons, four daughters, 24-grandchildren, siblings Rev. Francis J. Lenoch of Solon, Iowa, Rita (Joseph) Krall of Iowa City, Iowa, Magdalen (John) Kasper of Morse, Iowa and John (Sophia) of Iowa City; sister-in-law Patricia Lenoch of Iowa City plus nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded by his parents, a daughter and brother Leo Lenoch. The funeral was held on Monday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 1905 West Beltline Highway with Rev. Lenoch officiating. Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road was in charge. |
