Biography* | Michael Galvin, ca1800-aft01 Jun 1870: Believe this man may be Patrick Galvin's brother. He lived in Columbia County at the same time that Patrick did. Patrick's son Thomas is buried next to this Michael's wife in Hudson Cemetery. According to Mary Galvin Manley's obituary, she and a sister came to the United States circa 1849 with an uncle. Although there is no corroborating evidence in Solohead Parish church records, this Michael could be that uncle. He lived in Hudson since 1850, first in the first ward, then in the second. On 25 Oct 1859, William, a native of County Limerick, was naturalized in County court of Columbia County, New York state. After his first wife Mary died in 1857, Michael married a second Mary, Mary Campbell, between 1865 and 1870. No record of either of them after 1870. | |

Biography* | Mary Ellen Downing Galvin, c1862-1907: Mary Ellen was born in New York as were both of her parents. Her maiden name is unknown. In 1900, married to Eugene Downing and with two children, she and her family were renting in Hoosick Falls Village, Rennselaer County, New York. Using her middle name, Ellen, she was a resident and employeee of the Hudson Orphan Asylum in Columbia County. Ellen died on a Tuesday, about the age of 45, of heart disease and was survived by a daughter from a previous marriage, Mrs William White, also of Hudson. Ellen was buried in the Hudson cemetery with her second husband Patrick Galvin and other members of his family. NOTE: Something is wrong here. Supposedly this Ellen, born in Ireland, married Patrick Galvin who died in 1898. However, this same Ellen is listed in the 1900 census (two-years after her 2nd husband died) as Mary E Downing, born in New York, married to Eugene Downing, with daughter Ethel (who married William White), living in Rennselaer County. |
