Biography* | Lorraine Mulcahy Tobias, 1926-1994: There is a discrepancy over Lorraine's birthdate. Both her county marriage record and her obituary list her birthdate as 16 July 1926; her Social Security Record lists it as a month later on 16 August 1926. After her marriage, Lorraine and Don lived at 4701 Hermsmeier Lane in Madison. Lorraine worked at Arlan's Department Store where she rose to Supervisor, retiring when the store closed. She belonged to the Chicago Northwestern Railroad Ladies Auxiliary. Lorraine was a big supporter of Wisconsin hockey. Lorraine, age 68, died on a Thursday with her husband at her side. She was survived by two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother in addition to her husband. Her funeral was held on Saturday at Saint Dennis Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Resop officiating. |

Biography* | Donald J. Tobias, 1921-2010; Donald's father Archie was born in Iowa of Iowan parents. His mother Viola Seibel was born in Wisconsin of a German father and a mother born in Iowa. In 1930, the family was living with Donald's maternal grandmother Ida Seibel at 202 Brearly Street in the 7th ward of Madison, Wisconsin. His father Archie was foreman at a garage and a veteran of WWI. By 1940, Donald's mother Viola was divorced and owned the house on Brearly Street. Viola's mother still lived with the family. Donald worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for more than 30 years. At one time, he was chairman of the Local United Transportation Union. Donald served in the U.S. Army during World War II under General George Patton, Third Army. He was a sergeant, a bazooka operator and received a purple heart. Donald, age 89, passed away on a Thursday at Univeristy of Wisconsin (UW) Hospital. He was survived by three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorraine in 1994, a daughter, a granddaughter and his sister. Services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to Hospice Care Inc. and the American Cancer Society. Special thank were given to the staff at UW Hospital for the care given Don. Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive was in charge of arrangements. |

Biography* | Bernard Peter "Ben" Uebersetzig, 1916-1993: According to his Dane county marriage record Ben was born in the town of Dane, according to his obituary in Waunakee. Ben's parents were first generation German-Americans. In 1920, his family lived on Second Street west of the railroad in Waunakee Village in a house they owned free of mortgage. Ben's father Peter was proprietor of a sofe drink parlor. In 1930, the family owned a $3,300 house and Ben's father was proprietor of a meat market which he owned. Ben completed two-years of high school. In 1940, he and his wife Mabel were renting in the village for $10/month. Ben was working as a salesman for a retail meat market and worked 60-hours the week-ending 31 March. In 1939, he worked 40-weeks and earned $900. Ben was a member of the Waunakee Knights of Columbus. After he retired, Ben summered at Waunakee Manor and wintered in Spring Hill, Hernando County, Florida. Ben died on a Sunday at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center. He was 77. Cause of death was carcinoma of the lung. Ben was survived by two sons, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, and two sisters. Funeral servcies were held on Wednesday from Saint John's Catholic church with Rev. Elmer Dietzl officiating. |

Biography* | Nellie Mulcahy Redders, 1920-1994: Nellie was the eighth of eleven children and the third daughter. She completed four-years of high school. In 1940, Nellie and her husband Clarmont were living with her brother in Westport township of Dane County. Nellie worked at the Mendota State Hospital for 23 years. She and Claremont lived at 4800 Midmoor Road in Madison. After Nellie moved to Columbia, South Carolina she worked at the State Hospital of South Carolina for 17 more years. Nellie was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Kopy Kats Quartet. She died on a Friday at the home of her daughter in Fitchburg, Wisconsin a week short of her 74th birthday. Nellie was survived by two daughters, two sons, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Margaret Kayartz of Pardeeville, Wisconsin and brother George Mulcahy of Madison. Her funeral was held on Sunday at Holy Cross Lutheran church with Rev. Steven Petersen and Rev. Mark Bartels officiating. |

In 1920, before Claremont was born, the family lived at 2214 Dixon Street in Madison's 6th ward. After he was born, by 1930, they lived in Westport township. Claremont's father Henry was a fireman on a CMRR locomotive. In 1940, Claremont, who completed four-years of high school, and wife Nellie were living with his brother-in-law George Mulcahy in Westport township. Claremont was working as a truck driver for a garbage collection company. In 1939, he worked 52-weeks and earned $960. Claremont, 71, died on a Friday. |
