Biography*

Nora Carrol Groff, 1888-1971:
In 1917, at the age of 29, Nora married an American sailor in the U.S. Navy named Forrest Norman Groff. An item in the London Daily Chronicle on the 2nd of January 1918 announced the marriage and declared that Nora was the daughter of Lady Ellen Carroll and the late Sir James Carroll. The item was reprinted in a number of American newspapers. In August of 1918, Nora moved to 10 Cleveland Street in Birkenhead, England. That December she filed an Emergency Passport Application with the U.S. Embassy in London so that she could join her husband in the United States at 917 Mount Vernon Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nora was 5.ft-5½.in tall with grey eyes and dark brown hair.

Michael was born at 20 Queen Street in Queenstown. His father worked as a pilot. In 1911, Michael and family were living in Naval Dwellings, Queenstown. Michael was working as a shipwright and signed his name. The house, a private dwelling with no out-buildings, had stone walls, a slate roof, four rooms and three windows in the front.
