Biography* | Margaret Coleman Steptoe, 1851-1929 Margaret's christening sponsors were William Forest and Catherine Lawton. When she married in 1874, Margaret was a resident of Queen Street, Queenstown. Her marriage was performed by Rev. Henry E. Dennehy and witnessed by Michael Coleman and Mary Olden. Margaret's husband died in 1900. In 1901, she was living in a public house at Clifton Place, Queenstown where she was the publican. Six children and a servant were living with her. The building had stone walls, a slate roof, ten rooms and five windows in front. There were two other public houses on Clifton Place plus a grocer shop. The four buildings housed seven families containing 34-individuals. In 1911, Margaret was living in a private dwelling at Naval Dwellings, Queenstown. The house had stone walls, a slate roof, four rooms and three windows in front. She was working as a housekeeper and could sign her name. Five of her children were living with her. |

Biography* | Alexander Ivan. Tolmazoff, ca1881-1934: From family lore: Alexander was a Cossack Russian refugee from Cardiff, Wales. He fled Anapa, Russia on the Black Sea to escape the revolution. Alexander had brothers and sisters but he was the only family member that left Russia. One brother was a mayor, a sister was a contessa. At the time of his 1918 marriage, Alexander was living at 23 Patrick Street in Cardiff, Wales and working as a mariner. According to the marriage record, Alexander's deceased father had been an Army Staff Captain. Alexander, 53, a married engineer living in Mallow, died on a Friday in Mallow hospital of cerebral haemorrhage and cardiac failure. Death was certfied by W. O'Sullivan, Mallow hospital. |
