Biography* | Joseph Fitzgerald, ????-????: According to family lore, Joseph Fitzgerald was one of six brothers whose estates in the Curragh (presumably in Kildare) were given to the Duke of Leinster (who was a Fitzgerald also). Joseph came to County Cork and lived at Tuberluneen for a time before coming to Cobh. There he started a business supplying ships in Cork Harbor. This was at the time of the American Civil War. Joseph built several East Hill houses, many of which were let to pilots who would give him first-hand information about shipping. |

Biography* | John English, 1857-1938: According to family lore, John was a grocer and tea merchant on Patrick Street, Cork City. In 1911, he, his wife Mary, and niece Mary Cotter were living in a private dwelling of stone walls and a slate roof. The house had nine rooms and six windows in front. They all spoke both Irish and English. John, age 80 of 1 Inniscarrig, Western Road, died on a Wednesday of cancer of the colon. He was survived by his wife. |

Biography* | Timothy Coleman, 1805-1909: His marriage in 1849 was performed by the Rev. P. T. Flynn with witnessers Michael Coleman (Timothy's brother?) and Patrick Spillane. During the 1850s, the family lived in White View, Glanmire church parish. Sometime after 1871, they moved to Queenstown, Co Cork. In 1901, he was retired and living with his daughter Ellen Carroll in Queenstown. Timothy died on a Saturday at age 104. Grandson James Carroll was the informant on his death cert. |
