Biography* | Raphael F. "Ray" Walker, 1893-1929: Ray grew up on farms in Lynn township, Sioux County, Iowa and Great Bend township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. As an adult he was a short man of slender build with light brown eyes and was a veteran of the U.S.Army during World War I. In 1917, when he registered for the draft, he was living in Dovray, Murray County, Minnesota and working at the State Bank of Dovray. About 1919, Ray moved to Tracy and in 1920, was rooming with Neil & Ella Finch on Harvey Street in Tracy, Lyon County, Minnesota. Neil Finch was a real estate agent and Ray was working as a bank cashier. Later, Ray began working as a realtor. Ray, 36, died at the Clinic Hospital in Tracy on a Saturday with his family around him. Cause of death was nephritis chronic diffuse (Bright's disease) with acute exacerbation ending in uremia acute stage (1-year) and pulmonary edema (10-days). He was attended by physician W. G. Worthman (or Workman?) (MD). Informant on the death cert was his siter Kathryn Walker of 3627 Lyndale, Minneapolis. Ray was survived by his mother Mrs W. F. Walker of Minneapolis, brother W. T. Walker of Windom, sisters Mrs F. J. Cummiskey of Mankato, Kathryn and Evalyn at home with their mother in Minneapolis. The funeral was held on Monday at Saint Mary's Church in Tracy. Ray's body was then taken to Sheldon, Iowa for burial beside his father. The Legion Post in Sheldon was in charge of services there and met the procession from Tracy in Sanborn. Relatives at the funeral included, Mrs McCarthy and sons John and Duane of Sioux Falls, Mrs McHugh and daughter and M/M Will McHugh of Wapeton, South Dakota, M/M Will Ryan of Mitchell, South Dakota, Nettie Cadin of Sioux Falls, M/M Modie Cardin of Alton, Iowa, M/M J. F. Commiskey and 2-sons of Mankato, Mrs Footh and daughter of Omaha and Ralph White of Minneapolis. Windom friends attending were M/M Gratton of Fund du Lac, Wisconsin, Miss Clara Delva, M/M T. R. Kelly, M/M Ed Koziolek, M/M Lowell Crane, Miss Helen Hebel and Mervin Hawkins. Undertaker.F. E. Kelly of Tracy was in charge of services there. |

Biography* | Ann Evalyn Walker Bugh, 1901-1988: Listed as Anna Evalyn on her county birth record, she was usually referred to as Evalyn or Evelyn until 1920. In 1920, with a high school education, she was working as a music teacher and living with her parents on Eighth Street in Windom, Minnesota. In 1930 Ann was living with her widowed mother and sister Kathryn at 3721 Grand Ave in Minneapolis. She was employed playing the organ as well as teaching music. In 1935, Ann was married to Givie Bugh by Paul A Colbert a Catholic Priest from Incarnation Catholic Parish at 38th and Pleasant Avenue. Witnesses were her nephew Jerome Cummiskey and her sister Kathryn. In 1940, Ann and Gilvie were renting a half-duplex at 4132 Grand avenue in the 8th ward of Minneapolis for $24/month. Ann's mother Anna and sister Kathryn were renting the other half of the duplex. By 1942, they had moved to Kalamazoo. At first they lived at 1419 Clinton. By 1953 they ha moved to 925 Davis Street. In Kalmazoo Ann was 1st president of the Kalamazoo Chapter of the Sweet Adelines, taught piano for many years and was a memberof the Kalamazoo Musical Art Club. Ann, 87, died on a Tuesday at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Husband Gilvie was informant on the death cert. Cause of death was pneumonia (1-week) due to intracerebral hemorrhage (10-days). She was attended by physician Kevin J. Kelly (MD) of 6600 South Westnedge in Kalamazo. Ann was survived by husband Gilvie, a daughter, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ann's remains were cremated. No service was held. Avink Funeral Home of 1367 Portage Street in Kalamazoo was in charge. Memorials to charities of the donor's choice were suggested. |

Biography* | John Henry Hayes, 1861-1944: John, the fourth of eight known children, was a first generation Irish-American born in Massachusetts. Circa 1864, the family moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois where his father Maurice worked as a blacksmith. About 1879, John, with an eighth grade education, became a bricklayer and stone mason. In 1880, the family was living at 362 43rd Place. John was married to Margaret Ryan in 1889 and in 1890 they were living at 396 West Henry Street. In 1894 at 670 South Washtenau and in 1900, they were renting at 523 West Fifteenth Street (a duplex) in the 9th ward of Chicago. In 1910, they were renting at 118 South Ashland Avenue (a duplex) in the 11th ward. Circa 1917, John went to work for Cook County as a mason. His wife Margaret died in 1912 and in 1920, John was renting at 3828 Arthington Street in the 13th ward. His two younger daughters were living with him. In 1930, John was renting at 3701 Lexington Street in the 24th ward for $75/month. He was working as a building mechanic. The two daughters were with him. In 1940, they were living at the same address and the older daughter was now listed as head of household. John was unable to work but had other income. He retired about 1942. John, 82, died at home on a Thursday. He was survived by three daughters Lucille and Florence Hayes and Mrs. Mary M Walsh and by a sister. The funeral was held on Monday at Presentation church. |

She was survived by a nephew and a niece. The funeral was held on Thursday at the nursing home chapel, the Rev Benjamin Reddington officiating. Pflanz Funeral Home of Portage was in charge. |

Biography* | James F Walsh, 1884-1932: James, a first generation Canadian-American, was the oldest of four, all born in Illinois, with one younger brother. His father Thomas was first generation Canadian-Irish born in Montreal, Quebec. His mother Theresa Brady was also first generation Canadian-Irish born in Saint-Anticet, Quebec about 53-miles southwest of Montreal. In 1900, the family was renting at 291 25th Street in the 14th ward of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. The father Thomas was a foreman in a wheel works. In 1908 James married Laura Miller in Indiana. In 1910, they were living in a duplex at 216 East Street in La Porte City. James' in-laws were living in the second apartment and owned the building. James was working as a traveling salesman for an iron foundry. James and Laura had one daughter then in 1914 Laura tragically died in Chicago where they were living. She was buried in La Porte. In 1917, James was married for the second time to Mary Hayes in Chicago. In 1919, when he registered for the WWI draft, James and family were renting at 3947 Jackson Boulevard in the 13th ward of Chicago. The building was a triplex and the owner occupied one of the apartments. In the draft registration James was listed as a self-employed businessman making steel and other foundry products at 32 North Clinton. He was described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes and black hair. James signed the registration on September 12th. In 1920 he was working in a foundry as a laborer. By 1930 James was in his own foundry business. He and wife Mary owned a $18,500 home at 826 Linden Avenue in Oak Park, Cook County. James became Vice President of Moline Iron Works while at the same time was also manager of the Elkhart Division of Chicago Hardware Foundry Company. He was a member of the Butterfield Country Club and the Illinois Atheletic Club. James, 47, died at home on a Saturday. He was survived by his 2nd wife Mary Hayes, two daughters, one son, brother Valentine Walsh and sister Mrs Joseph Alleyn. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Saint Giles Catholic church in Oak Park. |
