Biography* | | Luva Watterman Conerty Hubbard, 1882-1969: Luva was the middle child of three daughters born to father Clifford Watterman, a farmer born in Wisconsin to parents born in New York, and mother Kate born in England. In 1900, the family lived on a farm they owned free of mortgage in Rutland township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Luva had completed two-years of high school. Circa 1904, she married Silas Hubbard who was also from Rutland township. In 1910, they had one son and one daughter and were renting a farm in Dell Prairie township in Adams County. In January 1916, Luva married Charles Conerty at Janesville in Rock County. She, Charles and her two children lived in Brooklyn Village, Dane County until October 1917 when they moved to Janesville. Luva was a musician and occasionally played in a local dance band. In 1918, they were living at 208 South Main in Janesville's 3rd ward. Luva and Charles separated and in 1923 Luva sued for divorce alleging that Charles deserted her in March 1922. On 06 July, Luva, living in Oregon, Dane County, was granted a divorce by Surperior Court Judge August C Hoppman in Madison. She was also granted a $300 settlement. In 1928, Luva entered a fiddlers contest in Stoughton. She was one of between 40 and 50 entrants. In 1930, Luva and her daughter were living with Luva's father in Rutland township. She was listed as a widow and was using her first husband's name - Hubbard. In 1940, still as Luva Hubbard, she and her daughter were living in a $900 house in Rutland township. Luva was caretaker of the farm and received no wages but had other income. Luva, 87, of Oregon, Dane County died on a Monday. |
