Biography* William Thomas Conerty, 1849-1928:
Born and raised on a farm in Hartland township, McHenry County, Illinois, William was married in Fillmore County, Minnesota in 1872. By 1875, he was living in Carrolton township there and later in the village of Lanesboro. In 1887, William moved back to McHenry County, Illinois and on 21 February 1891 paid $1.57 tax on property assessed by Dunham township in 1890 at $122. He was renting a farm in the township. William's first wife died in 1908. In 1910, he owned a mortgaged farm in Hartland township. A hired man and two servants were living with him. Then, in 1911, he married for a second time. Circa 1918, William bought a house free of mortgage at 418 Eastman Street South in the 1st ward of Harvard City in Chemung township. In 1920, he advertised that his 175-acre farm was for sale. The farm was described as having good buildings, first class water, was well fenced, with 120-acres under plow, 20-acres in meadow and 35-acres in pasture with plenty of timber. Terms proposed were a small down payment with the balance on time. In 1923, William offered the farm for rent. Their were new barns and silo on the farm and 40-tons of dairy feed available to the renter. In 1925, he moved in with his daughter Lillie in Woodstock.

William died on a Monday at age 79. He was survived by his second wife Elizabeth, two daughters Mary Alice Petersen and Lillian Eckert, five sons Henry, Charles, James, Frank and John, one sister, one brother, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. William's funeral was held on Wednesday from his daughter Lillie's house on Clay Street in Woodstock. Services were provided by Rev. E. K. Hershey of the Presbyt erian Church (both of William's marriages were performed by Catholic priests). Biography* Martha Johnson Conerty, 1837-1921:
Records of Martha's birth date are inconsistent. Her county death record lists her birth date as 19 November 1837 but her age at death as reported in the same record, 83 years/11 months/19 days, calculates to a birth date of 12 November 1837. Her obituary lists her birth date as 03 November 1837. Martha came to the United States circa 1862 settling first in Caledonia, Minnesota later moving to Rushford, Minnesota and finally Chatfield. She was employed in woolen mills in all three places. Her marriage to Henry Conerty in 1866 was witnessed by Denis and Margaret Slaughter. In 1895, Ingebor Johnson, age 86 and born Norway, was living with Martha and her son William. He is old enough to be her father. If not, he still may be related.

Martha, age 83, died at her home in West Chatfield on a Tuesday. She had been in failing health since early in the spring. Cause of death was gangreen of the left leg (26-days) and old age. Martha was attended by Dr. F. J. Halloran of Chatfield. She was survived by an adopted son and several nephews living in Fillmore County. Her funeral was held on Thursday from Saint Mary's Catholic church and officiated by the Rev. Maddock. Martha was buried next to her husband. Undertaker C. N. Hoffman of Chatfield was in charge.
