Biography* | Mary O'Donel McCabe, 1847-1939: We haven't found any records for Mary before her 1875 marriage at age 27 to Owen McCabe. We also are not sure of her maiden name - she may have been married twice. Mary's 1875 marriage license lists her maiden name as O'Donel. Her child's 1877 christening record lists Mary's maiden name as Cooney. Her child's 1876 christening record does not list Mary's maiden name but the two sponsors are both Cooney. NOTE: In 1910, Mary's son Michael, age 30, is living with May (nee Cooney) Conerty, age 52, and Michael is listed as Mary Conerty's cousin. If this be true, then Michael's mother Mary and Mary Conerty's father may be siblings although they were far apart in years. Michael's mother was born 1847 and Mary's father in 1806. Mary McCabe's child's 1968 obituary lists Mary's maiden name as Donnelly. In 1920, Mary is living on the Fountain-Lanesboro Road, Fountain township. Mary, 79, died on a Wednesday at the Hogan Hanson home in Fountain township. She had been staying at the Hanson home for a few days, complained of feeling tired and went to her room to lie down. A little while later she was found dead apparently dying in her sleep without a struggle. She was survived by daughter Rose McCabe of Chatfield, son Michael of Fountain plus two daughters and one son in Great Falls, Montana. The funeral was held at the Fountain Catholic church. She was buried in the Carrolton cemetery next to her husband. |

Biography* | Michael McCabe, 1877-1952: Michael grew up on a farm in Fountain township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. In 1910, he was living with the widow Mary (nee Cooney) Conerty and her son Mathew Conerty. In the census, Michael McCabe was listed as Mary Conerty's cousin. There is some evidence that Michael's mother was a Cooney which could explain how he and Mary (Cooney) Conerty are connected. Michael was not related to Mary's deceased husband James Conerty although the Conertys and the McCabes are connected. By 1920, Michael was boarding on Pilot Mound Road, Fountain Township and working as a farm laborer. In 1925, he traveled to Sheldon, Iowa to attend the funeral of his cousin Matthew McCabe. In 1939, Michael was living in Preston, Fillmore County. In 1940, he was living as a farm laborer on the Edward Dunphy farm in Carimona township. By 1946, Michael moved to Harmony township Michael, 74, died on a Wednesday, one month short of his 75th birthday. |
