Goodwill is between Lane and Dearborn and about a 20-minute walk east of the hotel). Joseph was decribed as 5ft-10in tall, weighing 165 pounds, with gray eyes, black hair, a ruddy complexion and a scar on the corner of the right side of his chin. Biography* Mary Margaret Brennan Doyle, 1901-1972:
Mary, the seventh of nine and the youngest of three daughters, had the distinction of having her birth recorded three times in the Fillmore County birth register. Two of the recordings were on the same page and were identical entries except the birth dates were different - March 7th on the first and March 4th on the second. The third birth recording, on a different page, also had a March 7th date but in 1902 instead of 1901. This birth was recorded as an unnamed female in the town of Fountain. The Brennans lived in Carrolton. Also on this page, incidentally, was recorded the birth of Mary's younger brother William in 1903. In spite of all these recording shenanigans, Mary managed to grow up on the family farm in Carrolton township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. We stuck with a birthdate of 07 March 1901. This agrees with Mary's Social Security record, her death cert and her obituary. She graduated Saint Terese's College in Winona, Minnesota and then taught school in Ireton, Minnesota until her 1929 marriage. After their marriage, she and her husband William moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1930, Mary and William were renting an apartment on North 10th Street in the 1st ward for $73.50/month. In 1940, they were renting at 1720 Spring in the 4th ward for $52.50/month.

Mary, age 71, of 3601 South Norton Avenue in Sioux Falls, died on a Friday at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls of pneumonia (3-days), arteriosclerotic heart disease (10-years), and carcinoma oral pharynx. She was attended by Dr. Stephen M Brzica, 520 West 22nd South in Sioux Falls. Mary was survived by her husband William, one daughter, one son, eight grandchildren, and brothers Ray Brennan of Chicago and Paul Brennan of Rochester, Minnesota. (Brother John also survived her but wasn't mentioned in her obit.) Mary's funeral was held Saturday from Saint Mary's church. Barnett Funeral Home, 901 South Minnesota, was in charge.

Born to a father born in Harrison, Grant County, Wisconsin and a mother, a first generation German-American, born in Preston, Fillmore County, Minnesota, Clarissa was the oldest of five children and the only daughter. In 1900, the family was renting on Main Street in Cuba City, Grant County, Wisconsin and Clarissa's father George was working as a miner. By 1910, the family had moved to Preston - her mother Alvina's birthplace - and her father George was working as a rural mail carrier. By 1920, the family owned their home in Preston. In 1926, Clarissa was married to Joseph Brennan at the parsonage of the Catholic Church in Wyykoff by the Rev English. Witnesses were Muriel Krause, Clarissa's cousin, and Raymond Brennan, brother of the groom. After the ceremony, Clarissa and Joseph took a trip to La Crosse, Wisconsin, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota before returning to the Brennan family farm in Carrolton township. By 1940, she and Joseph were living with her brother Melvin and her widowed mother in Preston. According to family lore, she and Joseph separated in that year and Clarissa later got a divorce.
