Biography* Sr. Rose Immacula (Elizabeth Ann) Brennan (CSJ), 1923-2006:
Elizabeth, the youngest child in a family of musicians, grew up in Ellendale, Dickey County, North Dakota. In 1930, she and her family were living on Fifth Street in the 2nd ward. Elizabeth attended the College of Saint Catherine as a chemistry and music major before entering the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ) and taking the name Rose Immacula. Sister Rose taught for over 60 years in CSJ schools throughout Minnesota and North Dakota. She worked as director of vocal music for musicals at Cretin and Derham Hall high schools in the 1960s, directing students in numerous Broadway shows. Circa 1981 Sister Rose became director at Saint Joseph's School of Music in Saint Paul which was in danger of going bankrupt, a schooll which traced its beginnings to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet in circa 1887. Sr. Rose was barely 5 feet tall and weighed less than 100 pounds but she possessed energy, enthusiasm, determination and vision and under her leadership the non-profit school became solvent. Sr. Rose served as bookkeeper and voice teacher to adults. She recruited the faculty which eventually grew to 58 in number. Sr. Rose would do anything to ensure the school's success: answering phones, recruiting and teaching students, balancing the budget and leading concerts. But as the number of students outgrew its former Summit Avenue location - there were almost 800 enrolled in 2006 - Sister Rose found the current space on the third floor of the Bigelow Building at University Avenue and Syndicate Street in 2005 and helped move the entire school. She also negotiated its five-year lease.

Sister Rose Immacula, 83, died on a Wednesday at Bethany Convent of complications from treatment for cancer. She was survived by nieces and nephews throughout the United States and abroad, by her religious community, by families and faculty of Saint Joseph's School of Music, by the caregivers of Bethany Convent's second floor and by a host of friends. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Saint Joseph's Provincial House Chapel, 1880 Randolph Avenue, Saint Paul. Memorials were preferred to Saint Joseph's School of Music, 450 North Syndicate, Saint Paul or to Bethany Convent, 1870 Randolph Avenue, Saint Paul. O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Biography* Margaret A. Williams Crowley, 1880-1948:
A first generation Irish-American, Margaret grew up in Rock County, Minnesota. Although we have no direct evidence of Margaret's birthplace, she was living on her father's farm at age 3-months and with a small leap of faith we've presumed that this was her birthplace. Until her illness became critical, Margaret lived alone in an apartment, but since her return from hospital a short time before her death was a bed patient at Mrs Schermerhorn's. Cause of death was malignancy of right ilium w/metastases (5-months). Margaret was attended by physician H. M. S. Kaug, MD of Chatfield. She was survived by two brothers Dr C. A. Biography* Harry J. Williams, 1882-1954:
A first generation Irish-American, Harry grew up in Luverne Village, Rock County, Minnesota and was educatewd through two-years of high school. In 1910, he was single, living with his parents in Luverne's North ward. For more than eleven years Harry was emplyed by the Eagle Clothing store in Luverne, Minnesota. Circa 1911 he moved to Adrian, Minnesota where he operated a clothing store for a number of years and then became a self-empoyed clothing salesman. He was married in 1912 at age 30. In 1930, he and wife Yolande owned a $4,500 house and a radio. In 1940 the house was now worth $3,500. Harry was employed as a salesman for a clothing company and had worked 30-hours the last week in March. In 1939, he worked 52-weeks and earned wages of $1,000.

On Saturday 27 February 1954, there was an auto-tractor/trailer accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 16 and State Road 91 in Adrian. Harry Williams, the driver of the auto, was fatally injured. He recieved severe skull fractures, concussion and lacerations to the head and face. Harry was rushed by L. A. Ferdinandt's ambulance to Adrian hospital where he was operated on for the skull fractures. Also the lacerations to head and face were repaired. However, Harry died the following Monday without regaining consciousness. Cause of death was the multiple skull fractures (49½ hours duration) and secondary ???? gangrene bacillus infection (hours). He was attended by physician E. A. Kilbride (MD) Nobles County Coroner.

The driver of the tractor/trailer, Bernard Goehring, 25, of Shakopee, Minnesota escaped with a small cut to the forehead though he was badly shaken up. Harry stopped for a stop sign at the intersection and then proceeded into the intersection, evidently not seeing the westbound tractor/trailer. Harry's car was knocked into the ditch on the south side of the road and remained upright. The right side was of his car was crushed. The tractor/trailer caromed off large rocks on the driveway of the former Standard Oil Station on the right hand side of the road, then hit and snapped two large electric light poles. The trailer ended upside down in a ditch by the side of the road while the tractor came to rest upside down on the pavement. Adrain Police Chief Ralph Munns, Sheriff L. P. Deuel and a State Motor Patrol investigated. A large crowd gathered and for a short time traffic was stopped on the highway until the power lines could be cleared. An electric crew from the local Light & Power Plant, assisted by two men from Luverne, were able to restore power by Sunday afternoon.

Harry was survived by his wife Yolande, a daughter Mrs Francis (Margaret) Jumer of Glencoe, Minnesota, a son Martin Williams of Minneapolis, a brother Dr C. A. Williams of Pipestone, Minnesota and four-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a second daughter Mary who died in infancy.
