Biography* Dr. Charles Augustus Williams, 1887-1969:
The youngest of seven, Charles (his birth record lists his given name as Augustus), a first generation Irish-American, grew up in Laverne Village, Rock County, Minnesota. In 1910, he was a student at the state university. In 1912, when his brother Harry was married, Charles lived in St Louis, Missouri. He graduated college from Saint Louis University and early in 1915 moved to South Dakota. In 1917, Charles registered for the draft at Doland, South Dakota. He was self-employed as a physician & surgeon and was described as a tall man of slender build with grey eyes and black hair. Charles listed his military as two-years as a cadet while at university. He was a veteran of WWI. By 1920, Charles was renting in Spring township, Doland City, Spink County, South Dakota. In 1930, the family owned a $4,000 house in Doland City's 3rd ward. By 1940, the family was back in Minnesota renting at 218 4th Avenue SE in Pipestone's 2nd ward for $45/month. In 1939, Charles worked for 52-weeks, earned $0 but had other income. Sometime later, he moved to Seattle, King County, Washington.

Charles, 81, died on a Friday.

Biography* Richard E. Kennedy, 1867-1941:
Richard was a first-generation Irish-American born in Iowa to farmers Thomas and Mary Kennedy, both born in County Kilkenny, Ireland. He was the sixth of seven, all born in Iowa, and the fourth son. In 1870, the family lived in Monoa township, Clayton County. The family came to Minnesota in 1876. By 1880, with two-older brothers and a younger sister, Richard and his parents were living in Elmer township, Pipestone County, Minnesota. By 1900, his mother had died and Richard was boarding with Arthur and Nettie Whitlock in Hardwick Village, Denver township, Rock County, Minnesota and renting a farm. His widowed father and two brothers were living in the same village. By 1910, Richard was married with two children and owned a farm free of mortgage in Luverne township. By 1920, at age 52, he had semi-retired from farming - he contiued to do some work on the family farm which was operated by his son Leonard. Richard and Josie had moved into Luverne City's North ward where they owned a mortgaged house.

Richard, 74, died on a Friday at Luverne hospital. His son Leonard was the informant on the death cert. Cause of death was intestinal obstruction (3-days), bronchiectasis and Myocarditis (several years). Richard was attended by physician C. L. Sherman of Luverne. He was survived by his two children Leonard Kennedy and Mrs Walter Busch both residing near Luverne, five grandchildren; three brothers J. P. Kennedy of Luverne, Robert Kennedy of Pipestone and Tom Kennedy of Ellsworth; and two sisters Mrs Kate Kennedy(sic) and Mrs Lizzie Kean of Hollywood, California. Richard was predeceased by his wife Josie on 23 May 1929. The funeral was held on Monday at Saint Catherine's Catholic church officiated by Rev. P. E. Matthews. Pallbearers were Charles Merrill, Willard McDonald, Frank Michael, William Larkin, Dr. A. M. Anderson, and Henry Bannick. Relatives attending included: M/M Tom Kennedy and son Bernard of Ellsworth; M/M George Floody, M/M Paul Floody with daughter Stella Mae and son Richard, M/M Robert Kennedy and Junior, M/M Ralph Jorgenson, Margaret Floody, Julia Floody, Dr/Mrs C. Biography* Mildred M. Kennedy Busch, 1908-1983:
Mildred was the only daughter of Richard and Josephine Kennedy and had one older brother. She spent her early years on a farm in Luverne township, Rock County, Minnesota but the family moved into the village before she reached her teens. Mildred was a graduate of Luverne High School and attended Mankato Teachers College. In 1930, Mildred was boarding in Elk township, Nobles County and teaching in a public school. After her marriage in 1935, she and Walter moved to his farm and lived there. In 1948, Mildred was the informant on her aunt Margaret Crowley's Minnesota death cert. Mildred was her husband's secretary in the Federal Crop Insrance office in Luverne from 1962 to 1975. They retired in 1975. She was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic church and its Altar Society. Mildred was also an adult leader of the Springwater Hustlers 4-H club for many years.

Mildred, 75, of rural Luverne, died on a Thursday at Luverne Community hospital. Her husband Walter was informant on her death cert. Cause of death was cardiopulmonary collapse (minute), severe tachexia(?) (months), gastric cancer (2-years). Mildred was attended by physician Stuart Sybesma, 215 North Cedar Avenue, Luverne. She was survived by her husband Walter, four daughters, three sons, 15 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, one brother Leonard Kennedy of Sherman, South Dakota, nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral was held on Monday at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic church in Garretson, South Dakota with Rev James McCormick officiating. Pallbearers were Thomas and Randy Busch, Daniel, Anthony and Jeffrey Brown, Michael Busch, Paul Kennedy and Paul Leuning. Julius Funeral Home, 505 Canyon, Garretson was in charge.

Biography* Leonard R. Kennedy, 1905-1988:
Leonard the eldest of two and the only son, was born, reared and educated in Luverne, Rock County, Minnesota. His father Richard was a first generation Irish-American born in Iowa. His mother Johanna was first generation Irish-American born in Minnesota. By 1920, Leonard's parents had retired from farming and moved into the north Ward of Luverne City. Leonard worked 72-hours the week-ending 31 March 1940. He and his wife Ellen were living in a rented house on the farm - for $30/month. They farmed in Rock County until 1986 when they moved into Garretson, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.

Leonard, 83, died on a Monday at Palisade Manor in Garretson. He was survived by three-sons, one-daughter and six-grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife Ellen. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic church. Minnehaha Funeral Home was in charge.

Biography* Walter Joseph Busch, 1910-1999:
Born in Illinois, Walter's family moved to Nobles County, Minnesota by 1917. Walter was the third of six children and the second of three sons. His father Andrew, a farmer, was a first generation Danish-Swedish-American. Walter's mother was a first generation German-American. He spent his early years in Minnesota in Elk and Summit Lake townships of Nobles County. Walter attended rural schools and completed the 8th grade. He farmed for many years in Nobles and Murray Counties. Walter also farmed crops and livestock in Rock County. In 1940, he was farming in Springwater township in Rock County. Later, he worked for the ASCS office and sold Federal crop insrance in Luverne. Walter continued farming after his wife Mildred died in 1983. Later, he married Catherine Schulte of Rock Rapids, Iowa. Walter and Catherine moved into Garretson in 1992. Catherine died at Palisade Manor in 1996. Walter was a leader of Springwater Hustlers 4-H club for many years. He was also board member and president of Garretson co-op telephone service for many years. Walter served Saint Rose parish as lector, eucharistic minister and mass server. He often visited Palisade Manor and was "grandpa Walt" to his "kids" at Dragonland Daycare.

Walter Joseph Busch, 88, died at Sacred Heart hospital, Yankton on a Saturday. He was survived by three sons, four daughters, five-grand-daughters, eleven-grandsons, 20 great-grandchildren, brother's Donald and Earl Busch and sister Catherine Eich all of Slayton, numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and two sisters. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Saint Rose of Lima in Garretson. Minnehaha Funeral Home of Garretson was in charge.

Biography* John Francis Crowley, 1876-1941:
The youngest of six, John grew up on a farm in Chatfield township, Fillmore County, Minnesota with four brothers and one sister, all first generation Irish-Americans. He was educated through the 8th grade. By 1920, still single at age 43 (John did eventually marry in 1932 at age 56), he owned his own farm free of morgage in the same township where he grew up. His uncle Michael Halloran, his mother's brother, lived with John for at least 10-years. In 1939, he worked for 32-weeks. John worked for 70-hours the week-ending 31 March 1940. His farm house was valued at $2,000. John retired in April of 1941 and moved into Chatfield Village.

John, 65, died at home on a Tuesday. He had been in apparent robust health until a year ago but failed rapidly. The end came following a few days of critical illness. His wife Margaret was informant on the death cert. Cause of death was hemorrhage shock (3-days), carcinoma of prostate w/metastasis to bladder and bones. He was attended by physician H. M. Shaug, MD of Chatfield. John was survived by his wife Margaret, two brothers Edward and Nichlas, one sister Mrs Anna Lynch all of Chatfield, four nephews and one niece. The funeral was held on Friday at St Mary's Catholic church with Rev Wm. F. Coleman officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Halloran, Leo Doyle, P. H. Laivell, Walter LaPlant, Harold Lynch and Leo Butler. Boetzer Funeral Home was in charge.

Biography* Yolande Mackin Williams, 1885-1965:
Yolande was born in Minnesota to a first generation Irish-American father born in Iowa and a first generation Austrian-American mother born in Wisconsin. In 1900, the family was renting at 1818 10th Avenue, Minneapolis (5th ward), Hennepin County, Minnesota. Yolande had a younger brother and a younger sister. Her father John worked as an express messenger. Yolande, who completed two-years of college, worked as a teacher for two years in Luverne, Minnesota circa 1908-1910. In 1910 she was teaching at a public school in Minneapolis and boarding in the home of Earl & Estelle Champion at 86 Lindale Avenue South in the 4th ward. In the census of that year Yolande was listed as Yolande Hope! In 1912, she married Harry Williams at Ascension church in Minneapolis. Miss Schultz, of Minneapolis, and the groom's brother, Dr. Charles Williams, of St. Louis witnessed the marriage. Following the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Williams left on a wedding trip to Duluth, and upon their return made their home at Adrian, Minnesota. In 1930 they owned a $4,500 house and had a radio.

Yolande, 79, of 4652 Grand Ave South, Minneapolis, died on a Monday at Glencoe Municipal Hospital. Her son Martin F. Williams was informant. Cause of death was adenocarcinoma of stomach. Yolande was attended by physician John P Kelly (MD) of 3801 Nicollet Avenue. She was survived by daughter Margaret A. Jumer of Glencoe, son Martin F. Williams of Bloomington; two grandsons, two-granddaughters and brother Richard Mackin of Mill Valley, California. The funeral was held on Thursday at the Church of the Visitation, 4530 Lyndale Avenue. Werness Brothers Chapel, 37th St & Nicollet, was in charge.

Margaret, , grew up in Adrain Village, Nobles County, Minnesota. By 1940, she was lodging with Ray & Helen Smith at 1114 3rd Avenue in the 1st ward of Worthington, Minnesota. She was employed as a secretary in a public school. In 1939, Margaret worked 52-weeks and earned $1,200. She married Francis Jumer in 1945. Margaret was the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Glencoe, Minnesota until they retired to Crosslake, Minnesota. Margaret was the organist at her church in Crosslake for many years. Later she and Francis lived in Crest Hill, Illinois.

Margaret A. Jumer, 104, of Naperville, Illinois died on a Saturday at Saint Patrick’s Residence in Naperville. She was survived by two children, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Francis M. Jumer and siblings Mary and Martin Williams. Graveside services were held on Thursday, November 9th at Glencoe Catholic Cemetery (see NOTE). The Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Naperville was in charge of arrangements. The family requested that memorial donations be sent to Saint Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563.

NOTE: Margaret's obituary lists her burial in Glencoe Catholic cemetery. Her memorial on findagrave.com (as of 24 Sep 2019) lists her burial in Glencoe City cemetery. The findagrave.com memorial for Margaret's husband Francis lists his burial as Saint Pius X cemetery (another name for Glencoe Catholic). Francis memorial lists his burial with his parents and one sibling but Margaret is not listed.

Martin, the middle child of three and the only son, grew up in Adrian, Minnesota the town of his birth. He was in the United States Coast Guard for a time with the rank of Coxswain and was also in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Aviation Cadet program. He was very active in his community. Martin was involved in CCC, was past president of of the local Toastmasters, coached little league baseball and was a scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America. He also was a member of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, the Knights of Columbus and served on the finance committee and outreach program at Nativity of Mary Catholic church. Martin was employed in sales. In 1965, he resided in Bloomington, Minnesota. Later, he resided at 14650 Gerratt Avenue, Appel Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota.

Martin, 80, died on a Friday at Apple Valley Health Care Center in Apple Valley. Cause of death was acute renal failure w/hyperkalemia (1-2 days), renal cell carcinoma (about-4-months). He was attended by physician Bradley K. Olson (MD), 15290 Pennock Avenue South, Apple Valley. Martin was survived by one daughter, one son and four-grandchildren.
