Biography* | John Henry Corcoran, 1875-1939: John lived most of his life in McHenry County except for a period around 1907 when he was employed as an electrician in Chicago. In 1880, John's family was living in Dunham township, McHenry County. In 1900, he was living in Hartland township with Terry and Julia McCabe. In 1910, John and wife Alice were living at 525 Austin Avenue in Woodstock's 4th ward and he was working at Bunker Bros. grocery. In 1920 they were living at 603 Austin Avenue and John was employed in the japanning room at the typewriter factory. He also was employed for many years at Slavin & Eastman furniture and undertaking store. John suffered a serious fall circa 1924 and never fully recovered. In 1930, the family was renting at 208 Main Street. John was working as a book salesman. His wife was a patient in a sanitarium. She died in 1935. John died on a Sunday at county hospital. He was 63. John was survived by four sons and two daughters. The funeral was held on Tuesday from Saint Mary's Catholic church. Thomas Merwin funeral home was in charge. |

Biography* | Alphonse Joseph Quinlan, 1880-1929: The youngest of nine and the fourth son, Alphonse was born on a farm in Greenwood township, McHenry County, Illinois. His father was born in Ireland and his mother was a first generation Irish-American born in New York. By 1900, his father had retired and the family was living in the North ward of Woodstock in Dorr township. The oldest son had died and the remaining eight, ranging in age from 19-to-36, were all still single and living with the parents. Married in 1916, Alphonse was renting a duplex apartment at 709 Dean Street in Woodstock in 1920 and working as an assembler at the typewriter factory. Sometime later, he moved to Chicago. Alphonse died at his home in Chicago on a Wednesday at age 48. He had been ill for some time. Alphonse was survived by his wife and four children. The body was brought to the home of his sisters, Katherine & Lucy, at 315 Judd Street, Woodstock. The funeral was held from Saintt Mary's on Friday. |

Biography* | John Westerman, 1853-1943: The youngest son of John Westerman and Margaret Kochespenger, John moved to McHenry County, Illinois with his parents at age two and grew up on a farm in Greenwood township. Later, John operated a general store in Greenwood village. In 1881 he married his first wife, Chloe Wakeley, of Harvard. John sold out of the store to his partner Dwane Soper and moved to Dundee, Illinois for about 20-years. He returned to Woodstock in 1901 because of impaired hearing. John joined the Congregational-Universalist church in 1903. He built a house at 510 Dean Street, Woodstock in 1905. John's first wife died in 1915. In 1920, he was living with his nephew Noah Harrison at 54 North Wilson Avenue in Pasadena, California. John returned to Woodstock to the Dean Street house and in 1923 married his second wife, Helen Mahon, of Woodstock. In 1940, John and Helen had three lodgers. Their house was valued at $6,000. John, 90, died on a Monday at Community hospital. His funeral was held at the Congregational-Universalist church on Wednesday with the Rev. M. L. Aldridge officiating. John was buried in a mausoleum at Oakland cemetery. |
