Biography* | John F. Brown, 1861-1911: There are inconsistencies in both John's birth date and his death date. He was born 6 August 1861 according to his church christening record and on 16 August 1861 according to his city death record. He died on the 11th, 15th or 17th of May in 1911 depending on whether his cemetery record, city death record, or obituary are correct. In 1880, John, at age 18, was living with Dr. H. Lyle Smith and wife Mary Smith at 184 Warren Street in Hudson's third ward. He was working as a hostler, i.e. - in a stable or caring for horses. Later, John was employed by Dr. Smith as an office attendant and also served as the doctor's driver. In 1882, John joined Washington Hose Co. No. 3 of the Hudson Fire Department. After his marriage, John and wife rented at 226½ Warren Street in Hudson's second ward. Later, by 1910, they rented at 24 Warren Street also in Hudson's second ward. Sometime after 1905, John was working as a clerk at the Worth House Hotel. Late in 1910, John suffered a stroke of apoplexy. A series of strokes afterward kept him homebound. John, 49, died at his home on a Wednesday. He was survived by his wife Anna, one son James, one daughter Katherine Young, and two sisters Margaret and Caroline Brown. |

Biography* | Patrick Sullivan, 1862-1907: A first generation Irish-American, Patrick lived at 449 Prospect in Hudson's fourth ward after his marriage. He later returned to the family home at 330 State Street. Circa 1883, he went to work for William H. Traver & Son as a coachman. At about 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday, Patrick, 45, was found hanging in the barn behind his house. The grisly discovery was made by his mother-in-law Margaret Kane, who lived with the family and had gone to the barn to call him in for supper. Coroner Lisk ruled the death a suicide. Patrick had been at home all that day and seemed to be in his usual good spirits. His wife and daughter had gone to Lake Charlotte for the day and did not learn of his death until their return later that evening. No reason could be given for his rash act. |

Biography* | Margaret Brown, 1864-1922: Margaret's death record and tombstone list her birth year as 1862. Since her brother John was born in August of 1861, the March 1862 birth date listed in her death record is impossible. Margaret's own christening took place in February 1864. In those days, Catholic parents might have waited a week or two to have a child christened but never two years. Margaret left Hudson circa 1887 to become a trained nurse. In 1911, she was living in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Margaret returned to Hudson in January 1918 and lived at 251 Warren Street. About two years after her return to Hudson, Margaret's health began to fail. She died on a Friday evening at Albany City Hospital of chronic myocarditis and melancholia. Margaret, age 58, was survived by one sister Carrie Brown of Albany, one niece Mrs George Young of Hudson, and one nephew Lyle Brown also of Hudson. Funeral arrangements were made by Hudson's William J. McDonald, husband of Margaret's 1st cousin once removed Kathryn McCarthy. |

From this death date and age, Eugene's birthdate would calculate to August 1866. There is conflicting evidence that Eugene died on 14 August 1864 at age 3 months. This later death date is consistent with his known birthdate of 10 May 1864. |

She grew up in Hudson and in 1880 at the age of 15, was working in a cotton mill. Although Julia stood as godmother for her niece Anna Martin in April of 1900 she apparently had left Hudson before then or shortly thereafter. Her mother's 1909 obituary lists her as Mrs Thomas Holloron. This is the only source of this marriage and the only source of her husband. No record of her or husband has been found in Columbia County after 1888. They have not been found in 1900 census of Massacusetts, New Jersey, or New York. They are not mentioned in any of her sibling's obituaries. |
