Biography* | Doris M. Moore Bodeman Ward, 1919-1988: Doris was the second child of six and the second of three daughters. Her father Earl was born in Iowa, her mother Theresa in Minnesota. At the end of 1919 when Doris was 6-months-old, the family was living in Vance Creek township, Barron County, Wisconsin and her father was working as a carpenter. They were renting, with another family, on a farm owned by a widowed farmer and his two brothers. In 1930, Doris, her four siblings and their mother were living with her mother's parents on the parent's dairy farm in Eureka township, Polk County. Doris's mother was listed as married but the father Earl was not listed with them. According to family lore, Earl died unexpectedly at a young age in a work related accident location unknown. Doris's mother Theresa remarried years later to Roy Hopkins. In 1935, after completing two-years of high school, Doris was living in Centuria, Polk County. In 1940, she, husband Robert Bodeman and children were renting at 1813 Elliot Avenue in Minneapolis 5th ward for $22/month. Doris and Robert were divorced in the 1940s and she became a single mother with five young children. Circa 1950, she married Warner William "Pat" Ward. Doris, 68, of 1810-10th Avenue South, Minneapolis, died on a Tuesday at North Memorial Hospice of ovarian cancer. She had been transferred there from Abbot Northwestern Hospital. The funeral was held on Friday. Waterston Funeral Home, 4343 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis was in charge. |

Biography* | Mary May York Laivell, 1922-2008: Born in Fairmont, Mary was one of two children with a younger brother. She grew up in Lake City. In 1930, the family owned a house at 801 North Oak Street in the 1st ward. The house was valued at $3,000. Her father Herbert drove a truck for a nursery. Mary graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. She later graduated from Winona Teachers College and worked as a teacher in the Zumbro Falls, Chatfield, Hammond and Rochester school districts. Mary also worked as a special needs teacher at the Rochester State Hospital. In 1947, she married John Laivell. In 1950, they were living in an apartment over the rear unit at 345 (street name unknown) in Chatfield. In 1954, they were living in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota. In 1986 at 1309 13th Avenue Northeast there. Mary, 86, of Rochester died on a Sunday at Saint Mary's Hospital. Survivors included her husband John also of Rochester, three daughters, one son and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. The funeral was held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic church with the Rev. Timothy T. Reker officiating. Macken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |

Mildred's mother Emily was a first generation Swedish-American born in South Dakota. Mildred grew up on a farm in Red Rock township north of Spring Valley in Minnehaha County, South Dakota and completed an 8th grade education at Sunnywood Country school in Valley Springs. When she got married to Russell Bergin in 1936, Mildred was living in Spring Valley. Mildred and her husband farmed in rural Sherman (Palisade township). After her husband died in 1963, the family moved into Garretson. Mildred worked at Palisade Manor in Garretson as a nurses aide for nine-years and volunteered at Veteran's hospital in Sioux Falls. She moved into Palisade Manor in June 1984. Mildred was a member Saint Rose of Lima Catholic church, its Altar Society, the Minnehaha County Extension Club, ECHO (ECHO is an agricultural support agency to the world. It exists to reduce hunger and improve the lives of small-scale farmers worldwide.) and the Birthday Club. Mildred, 84, died on a Monday at Palisade Manor. She was survived by son, one daughter, three-grandchildren, 1-great-grandchild,and brothers Francis and Palmer both of Brandon. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Saint Rose. Minnehaha Funeral Home of Garretson was in charge. |

Biography* | Earl Francis Miller, 1906-1982: Listed as Francis E. in the 1910 census and his 1934 marriage; as Earl F. in every other record we have found for him. Earl was the twelfth of thirteen children and had a younger brother. We only know the names of twelve of the children and of those twelve only two are females. So Earl had two or three sisters and ten or nine brothers. His father John was born in Germany, immigrating in 1867. His mother Catherine was a first generation Irish-American born in Minnesota. Earl was a farmer by occupation in his early years and was educated through 1-year of college. In 1939, he worked 52-weeks, earned $0 wages and had no other income (according to the 1940 census). In 1940, the family lived in the same house on Main Street in Darwin in which they lived in 1935 and which they rented for $7.00/month. Earl was a waiter in a cafe and worked 99-hours the last week of March. Earl, 75, of 3733 16th Avenue South in Minneapolis, formerly of Darwin, Minnesota, died on a Saturday at Fairview Deaconess hospital, Minneapolis. A daughter was informant on the death cert. Cause of death was cardio pulmonary arrest (2-hours), congestive heart failure (5-years) and cardiomyopathy (unk). He was attended by Dr. Richard I. Adams (MD) of 3617 Bloomington Avenue South in Minneapolis. Earl was survived by wife Marie, two sons, two daughters, 10-grandchildren and 1-great-grandchild. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Saint Stevens Catholic church, 22nd Street & Clinton Avenue South. McDivitt-Hauge, 32nd St at Minnehaha Avenue South, was in charge. |

Biography* | Victor Mikale Soukup, 1918-2012: Victor was the middle child of seven-children and the middle son of five sons. In 1920, the family was farming in Home township, Brown County and by 1930 owned their home in Stark township. His father Joseph was born in Minnesota of either Prussian or Austrian born parents. Victor's mother Mary was a first generation Canadian American born in Minnesota. Mary's mother was born in either Wisconsin or Luxemburg. Victor had an 8th grade education and on 09 November 1939, joined the United States Marine Corps. In 1939, he worked 52-weeks, earned $3,500 and had other income. By 1940, he had the rank of Private and was stationed at the 1st Def. Battalion barracks in San Diego, California. Victor worked 44-hours in the week-ending 31 March. He was discharged from the Marines on 03 August 1945. He was married twice, his 1st marriage ending in divorce in June 1952. When Victor married for the 2nd time in 1955, he was living at 1404 East Franklin in Minneapolis. The 2nd marriage was performed by Albert J. Coburn (OP) a Roman Catholic priest of 2424 8th Avenue South before witnesses Shirley McDonald and John McDonald. This marriage ended in divorce also. Victor owned a shoe repair business. Victor, 93, died on a Sunday. The funeral was held on Tuesday the 21st at Saint Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He was survived by his brother, Edward (Pat) Soukup and a sister, Lucille Simonsen, both of Sleepy Eye. Historic Thomson-Dougherty was in charge of the arrangements. |

After her marriage, Betty and husband Matthew McCabe farmed near Boyden, Iowa until 1952 when they moved to Paige in Holt County, Nebraska. When they retired in June 1989, they moved into O'Neill. Betty, 78, died on a Sunday at Beverly Healthcare in O'Neill. The funeral was held on Friday at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. Francis Nigli officiated. Biglin's Mortuary was in charge. |

Linda, 74, died at her home on a Saturday - 8-months and 11-days after John. There was no public service held in her honor. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore was in charge. |

Biography* | Mary Agatha Dunn Albers Lynch, 1909-1998: Mary was the fifth born of six children and the third of four daughters. Her parents were both first generation Irish-Americans born in Illinois. In 1910, the family lived on a farm they owned free of mortage in Township 142/Range 84 (P.O. Center Village) in Oliver County, North Dakota. By 1920, they had moved into the Village, were living in a mortgaged house and the father was working as a medicines salesman. Mary attended Dickenson State Teachers College at the University of North Dakota for two-years and by 1930 was working as a teacher in a public school. Her parents house was valued at $1,600. In 1931, Mary married Lawrence Albers. They had a daughter followed by a son and were later divorced. In 1939 Mary married Timothy Lynch. That year she worked as an assistant postmaster in the Center Village post-office and earned $900. In 1940 she was living with her parents and was listed as Mary Dunn and single (her husband Timothy was lodging in Austin, Minnesota and was listed as married.). Mary's son, listed as George Albers, and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Albers, were living with her and the grandparents. Everyone in the household was living in the same house in 1935. In 1950, listed as Mary Lynch, she was living with Timothy Lynch in Austin as his wife. Her son Geroge Albers was living with them as Eugene Lynch, as well as four Lynch children of their own. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Hospice Auxiliary and of Saint Cecelia's Unit at Saint Augustine church. She was involved in the Austin, Minnesota community for over 52-years. Mary, 88, of 1201-8th Street N.W., Austin died on a Tuesday at Saint Mary's hospital in Rochester. She was survived by three daughters, one son, 16-grandchildren and 15-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded by her husband Timothy Leo and two sons. Mary's oldest child was not mentioned. The funeral was held on Saturday at Saint Augustine's Catholic church with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Pallbearers were Dale Anderson, Gary Faas, Patrick Hillan, Jim Lynch, Eddie Lynch and John Page. Organist was Jan Muzik and the soloist Tom Klipfel. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge. |
