Biography* | Raymond J. Ryan, 1894-1954: Raymond came to Janesville in 1898 with his parents. He grew to be a tall man of medium build with hazel eyes and auburn hair. In April of 1917, he joined the National Guard as a private in Company M. At the time he was working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway as a carriage ???? and living with his parents. He continued to live in Janesville until circa 1944 when he moved to Madison. There he was associated with the Weidholtz Upholstery Company. Raymond served overseas as a sergeant with Company M during World War I. He suffered a fatal heart attack, at age 60, in his home at 820 Ridgewood on a Monday. He was survived by his wife and two daughters. His only son was killed in Korea. Funeral services were held on Wednesday in Madison. |

Biography* | Wilbert Ryan, 1895-1984: Wilbert was employed as a clerk at J. M. Bostwick, Janesville in 1917. He had grown to a be a tall man of slender build with blue eyes and red hair. He later was employed in customer service at Wisconsin Power & Light Company, a job he held for 30 years, retiring in 1960. Wilbert joined the United States Army in July 1916 and within eleven months had risen to Sergeant in the Infantry. He served his country in France during World War I and received the Purple Heart with clusters; the Croix de Guerre, a French citation; the Silver Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was instrumental in building Janesville's Armory in the 1930s. Promoted to Captain for World War II, he trained men from Janesville who served in the 192nd Tank Batallion of the 32nd Division. Wilbert was a member of Saint Patrick's Parish in Janesville, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Pioneer Club of WP&L Co and the Barracks of World War I Veterans, Rock County. He died on a Friday, age 88, at the Nazareth House in Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin where he was a resident. He was survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Wednesday from Saint Patrick's in Janesville and burial was with military rites. |

By 1940, he was living in Madison where he was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, the American Legion 40 & 8, and World War I Vets. Red, age 93, died on a Tuesday at a Stoughton nursing home after a brief illness. He was survived by two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held on Friday from Holy Redeemer with the Rev. Bruce Hennington officiating. |

Henry worked as a farmer in the Parkston area. His 1946 marriage was witnessed by Clarence J. Gukeisen, (his bride's brother ?) and a resident of Parkston, and John Neuheisel (Henry's brother Harold John?) and a resident of Armour, South Dakota. In 1963 the family moved to Plankinton in Aurora County and lived in a farm home northeast of town. Henry worked on the Allen Stoddard farm. Henry, age 57, died at his home of a coronary oclusion (heart attack) on a Thursday. He was survived by his wife, one son, three daughters, his mother, one sister, and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers. Funeral services were held on Monday at Saint John's in Plankinton with the Rev. Donald Molumby officiating. Pall bearers were Bill Gukeisen, Herb Gukeisen, Clarence Gukeisen, Donald Neuheisel, Bill Neuheisel, and Harold Uttecht. Military rites were conducted at the internment by the Plankinton VFW Post. |

Biography* | Joseph E. Neuheisel, 1883-1922: Joseph's tombstone incorrectly lists his birthyear as 1884. There is also conflicting evidence of his birthdate. On his World War I Draft Registration he lists his own birth date as 15 March 1883. His birth date as calculated from his age at death listed on his county death record is 18 October 1883. A difference of seven months and three days. The draft registration birthdate has been used in this database because he himself gave it. Joseph grew to a man of medium height and build with brown eyes and dark hair. On 17 January 1912, during the presidency of Wm. H. Taft and the 136th year of U.S.A. independence, Joseph E. Neuheisel was issued a patent for 160-acres in township 11 north of range 14 east of the Black Hills meridian in Meade County. Joseph, 39, was a resident of Ethan when he died of tuberculosis. |
